What completes your face when you are doing makeup? A gorgeous lip brings it all together – at least for me it does.
It was just three years ago that I really started getting into lipsticks. I was always the lip gloss girl. I think the first time I wore lipstick was Mac’s Ruby Woo – I thought to myself hmm this doesn’t look so bad. So now I love a good red lip on me. Since the nude trend started a few years ago, I was on a major hunt for a nude that was perfect for me.
If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram then you know that sometimes, I’ll post “lip service” snaps – highlighting my lipsticks for the night.
There are thousands of nude lipsticks for your complexion, trust me I know how difficult it can be to find the right color, so with that being said – I’ve listed a few tips and also showing of my favorites.
The first thing anyone needs to know before purchasing lipstick’s for the first time, is what is their undertone – do you have a cool, warm or neutral undertone? When you know these things, it helps a great deal with finding the right colors.
Cool: Hints of bluish, pink, or a ruddy complexion.
Warm: Skin skews yellow, sallow, peachy, or golden.
Neutral: Has no obvious overtones of pink or sallow skin, but rather the skin’s natural color is more evident.
You don’t have to go for the most expensive lipstick in the store, you can start off cheap and work your way up – if that’s what you want. I’m very optimistic that if you start cheap and find one that you love you will be satisfied and it will stay in your makeup kit for years to come. Don’t be intimidated by bloggers or YouTubers that use the most expensive lipsticks – stick to what’s in your budget.
Experimenting is key when trying to find the perfect lipstick. There are various finishes to lipsticks – matte, glossy, cream, satin. When you do find a shade that meets your needs you can do swatches on your arms or even purchase it and try it out at home. Most cosmetic stores have great return policies or you can keep it to add to your collection, because if you have friends like me, then they are always trying out your makeup.
(I will advise if you do wear a matte, then you should put chapstick or Vaseline underneath so your lips won’t be dry – trust me I’m speaking from experience. )
