Waking up we all (at least we should) have the goal of having a great for the day – successfully accomplishing everything on our To-Do list. I’m a weird bird – the more things that I check off my To-Do list the more accomplished I feel. No two days are alike, but these are some things I’m trying out to make my days for successful.
Continue reading for all the details.
1. Make Your Bed, Changes your Life
I’ve always been taught that you should never leave your house with your bed unmade or it will cause for confusion throughout the day (so very true – Thanks Grandma). This is one of the easiest successes that you can have throughout the day. It may not be on your “to do list” but you’ve accomplished something. This also helps start the pattern of making better decisions – chain reaction – and also forms a habit.
2. Set SMART Goals
Being in HR we are always talking about SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely) goals, during performance evaluation/reviews. I read somewhere that you can never be successful if you set unachievable goals. If they are unachievable then you will never follow through with them. I think just know what SMART means, is enough to help create a successful day.
3. Plan it Out
Y’all are going to get tired of me talking about planning it out – but it’s such a MAJOR KEY that I can’t say it enough. If you plan your day the night before you won’t have to guess what you have to do. I do a couple different plans/to do list – one for work, one for blog stuff, home life, etc. I’m the queen of sticky notes and note pads for this simple reason.
4. Use your lunch break wisely
As the day progresses it can get harder to keep that positive mindset functioning. If you work a typical 9-5, talking to people all day you may want to take a moment to yourself. Or if you are isolated and work from home you may want to meet someone to grab something to eat. You need that 30min/1 hour to recharge yourself to make it through the rest of the day.
5. Check your progress
How you complete your day is just as important as how you started it, especially if you are striving for success. Circle back to your to do list to acknowledge the progress you made. You should visualize all the tasks that are checked off as major wins. You conquered the day!
Take pride in your accomplishments whether they were big projects or normal day-to-day tasks. When I take the time to highlight my achievements I realize how much I have actually accomplished.
We all want to have success in all aspects of life, it won’t happen over night so it’s ideal that we take it one day at a time. When you lay your head down on the pillow, you want to look back and think of how proud you are because of the things you accomplished in one day.
